Leslie Ringer

Obituary of Leslie Steve Ringer

Leslie Steve Ringer
July 8, 1932 – January 16, 2019

Les passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at the age of 86.

Les was predeceased by his parents, Steve and Erna Ringer, and his sister, Irene Trenker.  He will be long remembered by his nephews and nieces; Paul, Richard, David and Mary Anne Trenker, their families, and his dear friend Heather Trojek, and her family.

The Ringer family immigrated to Canada from Hungary in the 1920’s.  Les was born in Winnipeg and then as a child he moved with his family to Toronto.  He attended Runnymede Collegiate and one of his treasured possessions was a photograph of the Runnymede Senior Toronto High school Champion basketball team, a team on which he was a proud member.

Les had a successful career with the Canadian Government, progressing from a position as a Customs Officer to Senior Immigration Officer.  To near his last day, he had a raft of stories of persons of fame that he had cleared through the old Toronto airport in the 1960’s.

Les was a long-time resident of Leaside Toronto.  He loved that area of the city.  His favourite pastime was duplicate bridge.  Les thoroughly enjoyed the mental challenge of the game.  Even more so, he enjoyed socializing with the people he met at the bridge clubs.

Les was extremely frugal in his personal expenditures and extremely generous to his friends and family.  He was also a long-time supporter of several nature conservancy projects, the Stratford Festival and Operation Smile.

Les spent his last year at the Sunrise Retirement Home in Richmond Hill and was very grateful for the excellent care that was provided to him.

The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26th.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
