I remember… “Generous, warm, family, calm and true friendships”. Growing up, Nanton Ave. was the hub, the centrepiece, the venue for the teenagers to congregate. Many ball hockey games were played with slashing allowed. Mr. Webb would often be riding his bicycle home after work, complete with a white shirt and tie floating in the warm fall breeze and his well worn leather briefcase attached for late-night reading. The game would pause, and Mr. Webb would peddle through with a wide smile, a glint in his eye and a humorous comment – listen carefully or you missed it. After the game we descended on the Webb kitchen with the air filled with the scent of home cooking/baking. Mrs. and Mr. Webb witnessed the food consumption and we shared many many stories. It is with a heavy heart we learned of Mr. Webb’s passing and we will always remember all of the great great times, thank you … Linda and Andrew Day

My dear Joan --
I was shocked to hear today that Peter has died. It was so sudden, and he certainly looked much younger than his age when I last saw him so recently. .
I got to know Peter through the Avoca Film Nights, where i appreciated his enthusiasm, his introductions and his interesting comments at the screenings.
with my sympathy ...,

I met Peter very early on in my legal career, in the early 80’s. There were only a handful of women involved in personal injury work at the time and sadly, we did not always receive a warm and welcoming reception from all our male counterparts. Peter was among the exceptions. He was always courteous and respectful, and made me feel like a colleague at the bar. I will always remember him fondly for a month-long trial we were involved in together one very hot summer- he never lost his cool. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and close friends. I hope you find comfort in knowing he was extremely well liked by the legal community, and was, at all times, a true gentleman.

Stewart and Elizabeth,
I have very fond memories of your dad from our days on Nanton Ave. - white shirt and tie and the most wonderfully infectious and expressive laugh. Riding in your classic racing green Mustang was always a thrill. I recall many film nights at the old Chaplin Theatre, where we went to see Charlie Chaplin films. And I am sure you remember our family coming over to your house on Boxing Day, all of us still in our pajamas! I also recall some great conversations I had with your dad about music, from Billie Holiday and The Mills Brothers to The Beatles and The Beach Boys.
Sending you my love and support at this time - and strength for sorting out the future...
Take care,
John Howarth

Peter was once a full time baseball player before he turned to law. Whatever part of the baseball field he may have covered, he covered many bases in life: tennis player, lover of literature and film, a birdwatcher with an appreciation of nature greater than any need for comfort, canoeing in the far Northwest, long-time member of The Walking Stick Club and its president several times, quiet organizer, friend. He enjoyed an unusual combination of physical and intellectual strength.

Mitch and I would like to send our deepest condolences to you Liz, and the rest of your family. Although we never met your father, I am sure that he was a sincere and genuine person as he raised his daughter in the same character. I hope the coming days don't prove too difficult and that you find comfort in the many memories being shared by others.
Love you lots - sending big hugs

I owe Peter much. With great patience and generosity, he taught me for a number of years about the practice of law. He was a superb lawyer: he was very clever, hard-working, organized and determined. His command of English was wonderful. More importantly, he was a gentleman in the best sense of that word: he was very decent, honest, self-effacing and civil. His death is a big loss. I give my deepest condolences to his family.

We are deeply saddened by Peter’s death and send Joan and other family members our sincere condolences. We admired Peter’s cheerfulness and spirit in dealing with the challenging health issues he experienced in recent years. More important, though, Peter was a wonderful human being. In addition to his kindness, wit and obvious intelligence, he had an insatiable curiosity about the world and an unfailing interest in others. He spoke little about himself but was a grand story-teller: we will especially remember the stories from the year when he was just out of university, playing “D-level” baseball in the southern US. Avoca film nights will not be the same without Peter, one of its early moving spirits who shared so generously his knowledge of and enthusiasm for cinema. He will be sorely missed by us and so many other Avoca friends whose respect and affection he so deservedly won. Pat and John Evans
