Bill Dunsmoor was a warmhearted friend and an essential partner on several large public sculptures we made together. His greetings were always hearty with a big smile and strong grip.
Bill embraced new projects with enthusiasm and followed through in their fabrication with a commitment to achieving a superb result. Bill's knowledge of his craft often contributed in ways I had not anticipated to the aesthetic realization of my designs. His partnership, although always sage and down to earth in matters of engineering and the practical making of these large sculptures, embraced the spirit of what I hoped to achieve and in sometimes subtle but essential ways added greatly to the quality of the sculpture.
The first project, "Mudra" , situated on Grosvenor St between Yonge and Bay Streets, was made when AllWeld was still downtown. "Triad" which stands at the corner of York and Front Streets, was made at the Scarborough shop. Bill also worked on "Wave" which stands at the entrance to the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.
There were smaller projects as well, always embraced by Bill's enthusiasm for sculpture and celebrated joyously by both Bill and Susan.
Though small consolation, his work lives on . We were the same age. I mourn his passing and will miss him .

I was incredibly saddened to learn of Bill's death. Both he and Susan were amazing neighbours to me on Rosemead Close, and I recall with great fondness many impromptu dinners at Mario's, glasses of wine on my back deck, and conversations on the driveway. Bill certainly "loomed large" in everything he touched -- people, family, business, art and life! My heartfelt condolences to Sue and his whole family. I suspect All-Weld and the cottage will never feel quite the same ...

Bill was very passionate about their family cottage on Gloucester Pool and the lifelong friendships they had created there. Boating was one of their favorite activities and he was proud to have "The Traveller" back on The Pool. Launch day in 2013 (see photo attached) was very special for the entire family as can be seen by the smiles on their faces.
Bill will be greatly missed !

I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Sue and the family on your loss. Bill and Sue were one of the first Donalda members to welcome John and I to the club, primarily at the Friday night curling events. Bill’s big smile was so great and we had so much fun. He will be missed. I am sorry that I will be unable to attend Jan. 12 but you will all be in my thoughts and prayers.
