Obituary of Glenys McAlpine

GLENYS (DEE) McALPINE (née Gibson) It is with great sadness that the family of Glenys McAlpine announce her passing on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Beloved and devoted wife and life partner of Charles Lockhart McAlpine. Loved mother to Lisa (Ron Schwass) and Andy (Carolyn Third). Proud Granny to Alex, Charlotte and Chloe. She loved each of the family's six Springer Spaniels over the years and more recently Foxy, in Grand Cayman. Glenys was a beautiful and vibrant force of light and happiness to her many friends and extended family of cousins. She grew up in Stratford, Ontario and worked summers in Muskoka where she met her husband of 60 years, Charles. They began their life together studying at the University of Western Ontario and moved to Toronto in 1960 where they were long-time residents in Hogg's Hollow. In 1966, they purchased a large tract of land on Lake Rosseau where they built a magnificent home on the shores of Skeleton Bay. Over the last 15 years they managed to live half the year on the Lake which was their cherished peaceful spot of nature and beauty. An accomplished painter, Glenys was constantly sketching and painting nature as she observed it, whether it was in The Valley, Muskoka, Sandestin, or Grand Cayman, her favourite places to be. She leaves behind many groups of friends and family in each of these places where she would swim, golf and paint. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Kristy Wasson for her unbelievably compassionate care during the past year and Dr. Shady Ashamalla and all the incredible doctors, nurses and staff at Sunnybrook and the Odette Cancer Centre, who treated and cared for Glenys with compassion, affection and focus. Private cremation has occurred and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
