Obituary of Brian Malcolm
BRIAN McKENZIE MALCOLM
November 26, 1940 - November 15, 2018
Born in Brantford, Ontario and longtime resident of Toronto, Brian McKenzie Malcolm passed away November 15th surrounded by his three sons, Bruce, Cameron and Duncan; and loving wife, Marnie (Perigoe) Malcolm. Son to Ewart and Irene (Bowden) Malcolm, and older brother to Blair, Marney (Horton), Rod and Scott Malcolm. Brian and Marnie married in Agincourt, Ontario on May 20, 1967 and Brian graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. Brian’s role with Trust Companies Victoria and Grey, and National Trust, took his young family to Kingston, Cobourg, Orangeville, Port Credit and North Bay; finally settling in Toronto. Through school, business, church, Ski Patrol and Rotary, he formed lasting friendships, many of which continued to this day.
In 1989 Brian left the Trust business and joined the Presbyterian Seminary, Knox College, as the Administrator at the University of Toronto campus. He particularly enjoyed working with students and the fledgling Ecumenical Chaplaincy at the University of Toronto. He continued on the Chaplaincy Board and the Board of Evangel Hall in Toronto for many years following retirement. Whether it was through his support of the churches he attended, or other organizations his family was involved with, his was a life of service.
Brian loved being with family at the cottage on Balsam Lake. He reveled in watching his sons; beloved daughters-in-law (Jennifer, Courtney and Julia); and grandchildren (Paige, Graeme, Whitaker, Celeste, Lila, Colin and Deirdre) grow and love the outdoors as he did.
Music was a lifelong passion for Brian. Although his clarinet took him on many adventures as a young man, it was choral music that inspired him throughout his life. A long-time member of the Mississauga Choral Society, he also sang in church choirs as part of his expression of faith.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Eglinton St. George’s United Church, 35 Lytton Boulevard, Toronto on Friday, December 7th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ecumenical Chaplaincy at the University of Toronto (ecut.ca), Evangel Hall Mission (evangelhall.ca) or Eglinton St. George’s United Church (esgunited.org).
