Obituary of Jean Macdonald
Jean Macdonald (nee Underwood)
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jean Macdonald, aged 94, on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Michael Garron Hospital. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack, on Valentine’s Day 1964 and later, by her dear sister Aileen Lewis and her dear brother George Underwood. Jean was the very cherished mother of Connie Green (Larry Bruce), the treasured Grammy of Katherine Green and Jennifer Fox (Phil), and the very special Great-Grammy of Mason Fox. Jean is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, the congregation of Don Mills United Church, and friends.
Born on July 21, 1924, in Wingham, Ontario to Nelson and Lillian (nee Moffat) Underwood, Jean was a farm girl who loved to ride horses. At 18, she came to Toronto to attend Shaw Business College. Her professional life included teaching at Bendale Secondary School, and working as an executive secretary at Bell (2 Bloor Street West and Trinity Square) and the Ontario Club. She was well respected for her strong work ethic and pleasant manner.
For 63 years, Jean was a very devoted member of her church. She was honoured as a Chartered Member and Life Member of the United Church Women. Also, for 63 years, she lived in her lovely East York bungalow, leaving only two weeks before her passing from cancer.
Always beautiful, elegant and stylish, Jean also possessed inspiring inner beauty. Caring, selfless, and loving, she will be very missed by so many. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 4.
