Dear Mary, Ann and I were greatly saddened to learn of the death of your beloved Jim. I have good memories of Jim through the years, from meeting him in September 1964 during “rushing” weeks at the Phi Delta Theta house on St. George Street , to seeing him (occasionally) at the Library at Victoria College , to remeeting him (and meeting you and Scriv and others) at JPL in the Summer of 65 , to having him as a Loans Officer at TD Bank agree to make a loan to me to buy our first car (a red BMW 2002, of which Jim approved) in March 1973 when I was starting as a lawyer with McCarthys, to working with him in my capacity as counsel to the underwriters for securities offerings by HBC and others, to being with you and Jim at parties in Toronto hosted by mutual friends, to bumping into him at the Calgary Airport as we waited to board our return flights to Toronto, and more. Jim was always affable and ever-polite. His grace and popularity and business acumen were reflected well in the Tributes at today’s Service of Thanksgiving for his life. May God Bless and Comfort you and your family at this time and always, With Sincere Condolences, Ed Kerwin

My dad John and Jim's dad were business associates at DS in the 50s and 60s.
We spent a few summers in the mid 50s at Thunder Beach. Sister Susan was a mother's helper to my younger brother Paul and I.
One day at the beach, When I was about 5 or 6, I thought I'd swim out to the raft moored off the sandy shore in deeper water....to join the older boys. As you might say I was soon in over my head. I started thrashing in desperation and fear that I couldn't make it.....returning to shore wasn't even and option in my state of mind.
I looked to the shore and saw my dad starting to gear into rescue mode. At the same time, this powerful force coming from the raft scooped me up at took me to safety. It was a young Jim Davie. I can thank him for saving my life. It was quite a day. But it would seem that Jim went on to have quite a life.
Best wishes to the Davie family.

Gone from my Sight
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength
and I stand and watch her until at length
she hangs like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says: “There, she’s gone!”
Gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side;
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her;
and just at the moment when someone at my side says:
“There, she’s gone!”, there are other eyes watching her coming
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout –
“Here she comes!”.
And that is dying.
