Obituary of Sandra Jean Cardy

SANDRA JEAN CARDY

Peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the age of 59. Born in Montreal, Quebec on September 10, 1958. Daughter of the late Russell and Margaret Dunn. Cherished wife to Roland; mother to Alexandra and Christopher; stepmother to Geoffrey Cardy, Baye Mahoney (Justin); grandmother of Grayson. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law Bay Cardy; her brother Stephen Dunn (Cindy); and Steve’s children Andrew (Darcy), Kate; and great-niece Scarlett; as well as Steve’s first wife Debbie. In addition, she leaves her brother-in-law Gordon Cardy (Astrid); Gordon’s children, Jaime, Robyn and Harry; sister-in-law Barbara Blakely (Peter) and their children, Alison (Dave), Scott (Lesley) and Elizabeth.

Sandy was raised in Montreal, Thunder Bay, Vancouver and Toronto. She attended Lawrence Park Collegiate and graduated from Western University and the University of Windsor. She obtained her chartered accountancy designation while working at KPMG and enjoyed a successful career in finance before retiring from Mackenzie Financial as head of its Tax and Estate Planning Group. She was a best-selling author, an accomplished musician and an exceptional athlete. Sandy was a confident, vivacious and beautiful woman who was surrounded by love her entire life. She adored her family, both immediate and extended, as well as her many friends with whom she was in constant contact. She was an organizer, a perfectionist and a world traveler. Sandy made our house a home and our cottage an oasis for all who entered. In 2012 Sandy developed cancer, and while it never left her, she enjoyed nearly six and half years free of symptoms and pain. During these years she had the pleasure of watching her kids become adults, always inculcating in them the importance of looking on the bright side of life and being good and productive citizens. She never complained about her illness but worked as hard as she could to stay healthy for those she loved. She was our supernova and we are devastated by our loss.

Her funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, 230 St. Clair Avenue West. Flowers gratefully declined, but if desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
