John (Jack) Odom posted a condolence

It is time for our trading of Christmas cards and I usually get yours by the first of December. I tried sending an email and it bounced back, which started me to worry. I am so sorry to lose you as a cherished friend.
I remember meeting you in 1983 as a team member at IBM where we taught software engineering courses across the IBM labs in North America. Your intellect, wit, and love for life made us friends. I will miss you my friend, the stories we shared, and the toasts we made. I will raise one tonight to you and your family and shed a few tears and stories with my wife and kids who got to know you too.
Please scout out a place where we can swap stories, a mug of beer, and hugs when I join you.

Our deepest condolences to the Botsford family at this time. We always enjoyed chatting with John across our common fence.

I will miss you John not so much because I saw you often but because I enjoyed your company so much when I did. When Ernie and I were together we were able to see you from time to time and we loved your quiet sense of humour and Stigant family stories. When I travelled for business to Toronto you and I often arranged to meet for lunch or dinner at a restaurant you chose. And In more recent years I was fortunate to share a couple of beers sessions with you at the High Park pub. We always had a hoot, shared some good laughs and I remember these times fondly. Goodbye sweet fellow,
Rest In Peace. Cathy

Dear Julie,
I am so very sorry to hear of John's sudden passing.
I remember your wedding and have often wondered how you both are, especially, when I drive down Leslie and passed Talwood
My deepest sympathies.

I joined IBM in 1964, and John was a friend from that time. Although I only saw him periodically after I left the IBM Data Centre in 1969,, Bob Andrews always kept me informed of the latest news in John’s life. I will always remember John and Julie and the wonderful times during that era.

I first met John on a raft trip down the Bow River in Calgary many years ago, I remember being very impressed on how "young" Jack's older brother was. I've had the pleasure of his company many times since on his visits to Jack here in Newfoundland and always enjoyed sharing a conversation and a meal with him. Elaine and I are so sorry to hear of his passing. Sincere condolences to Jack and the Botsford family.

I worked with John in CAS for several years, and he usually came to our Old CAS Gang reunions at Kelly's after most of us left CAS. John was a wonderful person, mentor and the kindest person... with a great sense of humor. I will miss seeing him at our get-togethers. Condolences to his loved ones.

Met John in university and we became lifelong friends. He was best man at our wedding. We were part of a small group that met regularly for dinner and a pint in later years. I sure am missing him and his lightly sardonic brand of humour.

I worked with John during my time at CAS in IBM, and kept in tough since through periodic gatherings organised by Kelly. I always enjoyed working with John, and appreciated his quick wit and sense of humour.
John had a very generous spirit. I know of the work he did in the classroom teaching kids about photography because he pulled me in to meet with one young girl whose potential he saw and whom he wanted to help.
John's favourite topic of conversation was always his grandson. He literally lit up when talking about him.
My sincere condolences to the family.

John's father, Jack N. Botsford, was a pioneer in my birthplace of Red Lake, Ontario. During our correspondence, Jack wrote in high praise of his son, John. Sincere condolences on your great loss.

My condolences to John's family. I did not know him well, but he was a friend of my brother's (through their work), and was so kind to me at the time of Alan's death. I will always remember his support and thoughtful words.

John became a dear friend of mine beginning shortly after his return to IBM as a ROC after his heart attack. He needed to get plenty of exercise, so we were walking buddies. He was working for CAS and was helpful to me when I was publishing books. We enjoyed each other's company, so looked for ways to work together whenever possible.
As mentioned in his obituary, his grandson was very important to him. He lit up when talking about Griffin. I heard so many stories that I felt like I knew Deke, Griffin, and his brother Jack personally.
I've missed John over the years since his final departure from IBM. We tried to keep in touch after he left, but it became challenging. My memories of John will live on.
Condolences to his family.

John was one of my most favorite people to come into the IBM Lab Word Processing Centre to have his text editing work done. His level of excellence was exemplary! And, he was one of the first people to line up on our Christmas Goodies Day in the Lab Word Processing Centre.
As I write my condolences, I have images of John and the joy he brought to all of us who were lucky enough to know him. He was a truly special person.
I am deeply sorry for your loss.

John was my first manager when I was transferred by IBM to Toronto, and into the software lab. Cleverly, John decided that management was not for him so dropped back to be one of the team. We worked very closely on the fabled SMS project where John's insistence on excellence ensured that the project was a success and renowned. Woe be he who fell afoul of John's glare after committing some egregious error. (I speak from personal experience.)
John, you left us too soon. May the trails you travel now be long, winding, and full of joy.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of 'cousin John' as he was known in my home. I will always remember fondly the time my husband and I visited Toronto; John kindly put us up in his home, drove us around the city and took us to his favourite hamburger joint. My dad always spoke warmly of his cousin John. You will be missed.
