I guess I was partly responsible for Roger going into the piano business. I previously owned Pianotek for many years and sold Roger piano parts. I got to know Roger pretty well and visited him at home. In 1990 I purchased Fuji Spray where we manufactured spray painting equipment. Roger bought a system an proceeded to refinish or repair finishes on the many pianos that passed through his hands.
I'm terrible at keeping in contact with people and it's only today that I was thinking of Roger and decided to contact him. But then I checked online only to find that Roger had passed in 2018.
My condolences to Roger's family and friends.

Roger was a wonderful presence at Toronto French School, where he was our piano technician and piano tuner for many, many years. Always very kind, and always willing to come and fix a piano at a drop of a hat. He also came to many of the concerts at TFS, supporting the students in their performances. We acquired at least two of our pianos from Roger, who always kept them ship-shape.
On a personal note, Roger was a good friend and colleague. I bought my personal piano from him, and always invited him to my concerts at University of Toronto and elsewhere. Roger always came, if he was able. He would often chat with me about various musicians, and drop off little gifts (of old biographies of musicians or their instruments). I would sometimes go to his home to play some of the pianos in his collection.
We will miss him at TFS, and I will miss his presence in my life.

On behalf of the UK Connexion, I'm sending sincere condolences to Roger's family. Roger was a long-time member of our social club and hosted both a summer and Christmas sing-along at his home as well as regular visits to ethnic restaurants in Toronto. He was a good friend to many, a kind man with a wonderful sense of humour and fun. We will miss him.

Roger was our wonderful neighbour for almost 30 years. We always enjoyed the music flowing from the garage. The Christmas parties were amazing.

We have many happy memories of Roger. I played tennis with him for more than 25 years, and we all enjoyed his superb piano playing. He could play any tune on request and played wonderfully at two of the Thompson weddings. We shall miss him.
