I remember Rob in May 1953 when I joined Crown Life and Rob was my assistant Supervisor. I remember Rob in December 2017 at a Celebration for another Crown lifer where Rob was still arranging introductions, seating Crown Lifers together and general making sure things ran smoothly. I remember Rob so many times in between, working for him and working with him. In all that time he was the same - a leader making decisions based on ethics and what was good for others.

Dear Anne and family;
I met Rob early in my tenure as principal at UTS. He was always so helpful and provided exceptional service to our Advancement Committee. During the uncertain period when we were striving to renegotiate an ongoing affiliation agreement with the University of Toronto, Rob was a constant advocate. His positive feelings toward UTS and his ongoing dedication to the school were always evident. Rob cared deeply and served as an inspiration to others. The UTS community will miss Rob.

I met Bob when he was a director of DATA Group Ltd. I thought highly of him and admired his calm, objective and thoughtful demeanour when faced with controversial issues. He was a gentleman of substance. I offer my sympathies to his family for their loss.

Although I never reported directly to Rob, I did have the pleasure of working closely with him on a number of projects at Crown Life in the 1970's.
I have always remembered him as an inspiring and thoughtful leader who always treated his staff with careful consideration and respect.

Dear Dowsett Family,
Rob will be sadly missed by my children. We all have fond memories of going up to their cottage and spending countless days water skiing, swimming, bbqing, playing games, hiking, boating, and everything else. My children looked forward to this short getaway. It introduced them to the out doors and they have enjoyed that ever since. He was a true 'mensch' (good man) and he was never without a smile. He was exceptionally great to my late mother Edythe who was driven to the cottage by Rob and stayed for quite a few days. She absolutely loved Rob and his kindness loved floating in the water and going for boat rides. He was always busy. Fixing the roof, the boat, and anything that needed repair. Oh, don't forget the mowing of the lawn. Yes, we will miss this wonderful man. May you rest in peace Rob.

Dear Anne and family:
I was so sad to hear of Rob's passing. He was a true gentleman and supported Mom and Dad through some tough times. Along with the Willins family, he was one of few old friends who continued to visit after Dad's diagnosis. That meant a great deal to Mom.
I also remember fondly how caring the Dowsett family was when I was coincidentally on the same flight to London with them. After our long delay in departure (20 hours!) when they welcomed me to their home they went even further by treating me to dinner and an evening of theatre. I particularly remember visiting David's friend who lived in a fabulous townhouse on one of London's unique curved streets. What a wonderful memory of a wonderful family.
Neil and I will be in New Brunswick visiting Dylan on the day of the Celebration of Life. We send out love (and Marcia).

We are saddened to know that Rob will only be a distant vision in his canoe at Lac St. Francois Xavier. He was a fine, principled man with a huge, loving heart. His wide smile and open greeting always preceded him. He will be missed. We send our sincere condolences to Anne, Jarrod, Kathryn, their families and all those whose lives he touched. May he Rest In Peace. Sincerely, Edna and Joe Schell.

I met Rob when I was a first year student in MPC at the University of Toronto over 55 years ago. He offered me a summer job which led to me becoming an actuary and spending over 25 years working with him at Crown Life. I joined him at Mercer in 1990 and continued to benefit from his wisdom. He was always ready to provide advice and took a genuine interest in my career, and in me as a person. Our paths crossed regularly even after we had both retired. He was a true gentleman. I will miss him very much.

I am sure Rob will be missed but we should celebrate the rich life he lived and the positive experience he brought to our lives.
I was just out of school when I met Rob in 1993. He asked me to accept a 6 week secondment from Mercer to the United Way to help with fund raising.
I regularly saw Rob at actuarial events and had the good fortune to be reunited with him in 2012 on a volunteer committee working with the pension plan for the United Church of Canada.
Rob was always working to help others. I will always admire his enthusiasm and giving nature.

I served on Council of the of the CIA while Rob was President. I consider that as having been a privilege. Rob had a lot of good ideas and was very effective at getting them implemented. He represented the Institute very well.
I also have good memories of him coming to visit my family in Mont-Tremblant while he was on a skiing vacation.
Please accept condolences of my wife Marie and myself.

Rob and I were fraternity brothers through the same years at UofT(1946-50). We were always delighted to see each other at Monday Night Club and more unplanned occasions down the years. He was a valued member of the Pension Board at the United Church of Canada. Highly respected for his professional achievements and advice, Rob also had a warm and understanding heart. He was a good llstener; he "paid attention". His open face and ready smile reflected who he really was. He was God's good man. We miss just knowing he was there, and will always be grateful for the blessing of his life.

I offer my sincere condolences to the family on the passing of Rob, and to express my admiration for his life and his character. As a young actuary, I admired Rob's immense contributions to the actuarial profession in Canada. He was a true role model - articulate, thoughtful, persuasive and collaborative. During my early years in consulting and then life insurance company management, I enjoyed many interactions with Rob. He was always one of those individuals who gave energy to those he met and influenced. His was a life well lived.

Robert was a very dear friend of my father, Charles Galloway. I had the pleasure of meeting him in January of this year at my Mother's funeral. He was such a warm and charming man. I know that my father will miss his company greatly. Currently my father is in the hospital recovering from a hip fracture. One of his major concerns while he has been there was to contact Robert. I wish he had had that opportunity. I am so sorry for your loss.
