He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him, and his lifetime of distinguished service to our country will always be remembered. He was a remarkable gentleman who approached every activity with tremendous energy and devotion. His long-standing support of the Order of Saint Lazarus (as a member of the Toronto Commandery) is particularly appreciated and is an example of his kindness and generosity of spirit. My sincere condolences go to his family at this difficult time.

Our deepest condolences to all of Bob's family! He was a wonderful man, and will be greatly missed by you, and the many friends and neighbours he had in Leith! We planned on attending the burial service in Leith today but because of the weather and our colds, we send our regrets. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time!

On behalf of my mother, Mrs. Cynthia England of Owen Sound, and our family I offer our condolences to the family of Colonel Robert Rutherford.
After his return from the second world war in 1948 my father, Colonel J. Graham England, served with Colonel Rutherford with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters until my father's passing in 1968.
My mother has fond memories of the many regimental functions they attended together with Colonel Rutherford and is saddened to hear of his passing. She very much wanted to attend the burial service today in Leith. However, as she will turn 100 years young this September we thought that the unseasonable weather conditions today would be too much for her.
I am sure you are very proud of the many accomplishments and the selfless service provided by Colonel Rutherford to Grey County, the Province of Ontario and Canada. He was a good friend to my mother and father.
Yours truly,
Brent England, Allenford, Ontario

I recall my parent's (Robert and Vyvyen Graham) personal stories of "Bob Rutherford" or "the Rutherfords" coming to the Graham's small apartment in Belleville just after the war and how, right from the first time they met, the knowledge that Bob Rutherford was destined for greatness. Our family held Col. Rutherford in the highest esteem, someone who put the days of his life to the best possible use. My sincere condolences to the family. Jamie & Gail Graham, Victoria, BC

Bob Rutherford will be sorely missed by the Gurkhas in Nepal who were beneficiary of his great work with Gurkha Welfare Trust, of which he was the Chair. He prevailed upon me to be one of the Trustees for many years as well to join the Royal Canadian Military Institute. I have fond memories of interaction which Bob presided at various Trustees meetings and fundraisers, of entertaining distinguished visitors from Nepal including Lt. General Krishna Thapa, the Supreme Commander of UN Forces in Kuwait after the First Gulf War. Another Event I cherished with my son Benjamin is a Father's Day Dinner Event where Brigadier General Bruce Legge, Supreme Commander of NATO forces brought his sons and Peter Mansbridge brought his father, all due to Colonel Rutherford's arm twisting to make a great Event at the Military Club.
A great man, Bob Rutherford, I salute him. May his soul rest in peace.

Bob's cottage was beside my home in Leith Ontario. It wasn't until I moved in, and we shared a glass from Scotland, that we realized that Bob and my father both served as Honorary Colonels representing different regiments. From that point on we were family.
There were many Georgian Bay sunsets watched together as I listened to his amazing stories of life. There are some people you meet that you will just never forget. My heartfelt condolences to the Rutherford family. Rest in Peace Bob.

Justice Rutherford presided over the first long trial I was involved in (albeit as a very junior member of the legal team). The lessons I learned from him have stayed with me over my career. His compassion, patience, civility and intellect set the tone in the courtroom and created a model for advocates, judges and all those in the justice system. I am eternally grateful to him. My condolences to his family.
