The Forever Love
—— To George & Shirley Brickenden
Six days
144 hours
To meet, to know
to fall in love
73 years 3 months and 3 days
26000s days and nights
Lifetime with each other
Then held hands gently
Less than one hourle
left the world at the same moment
You are together forever
I am counting
your love by time stupidly
Because you two
Let time, the only eternal substance
Carry your love eternally
You've blessed this world by your love
Your love turns the death into beauty
the stars are blessing your love
Forever ever

Lives so well lived;
Souls found their soulmates;
Never apart;
Two hearts become one when depart;
Embarking on a new journey.

To the Brickenden family: your wonderful parents have left an important legacy to all aging Canadian couples who wonder if it would be possible to ' leave the party together'. I immediately forwarded the article to a physician friend who provides medical assistance in dying in Halifax. Thank you to them, and to you, for sharing this experience with us.
On a personal note, Shirley Brickenden taught me to needle point at The Brickpoint Studio in Montreal in the late 1960s. I still have the two small pillows completed under her direction and finished off at the studio.

I have just finished reading the article that was in the Globe & Mail and want to say firstly how sorry I am that you will no longer have these amazing people active in your lives.but secondly to say thank you to you and your parents for being willing to share their remarkable story. There are still so many people who don't think it is right, but I sincerely believe, that in cases such as your parents it is the best way. They have obviously lived lives full of adventure, family and love. To know that what is coming is pain and inability to continue as you have lived must be torturous. To have the support of those you love to be able to make this decision and to make it a celebration of lives well lived says a lot about all of the parties involved. Again my sympathies on their passing, but my thanks for sharing their remarkable story. God bless you all.

Such a loss to anyone within their sphere. Guido and I were very grateful to have had the opportunity to spend one last time with them last summer at Sherry Carlo's winery. They were in fine fettle and Shirley was wearing her painted toe shoes! I wish that we could be with all of you today but I only just saw the posting of the service this morning and can't get there in time, since we are just seeing off our own weekend guests. We shall be with you both in spirit and "spirits", toasting a magnificent couple and the trail of love and laughter they blazed through all our lives.
Love ,
Krissy and Guido

Angela, I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your mom and dad but when I read the whole story was totally moved by their love story of all time. Both your mom and dad were lovely people and I always remember that summer in Knowlton giving you your first riding lesson as you were too young to join the Pony Club. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.
