Obituary of Doris Foulds Reeve

DORIS FOULDS REEVE (NEE NIVEN)

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre after an 18-month struggle with melanoma.  Born in Montreal on March 31,1928 to Charles and Nan Niven.  Married to James (Jim) Reeve on April 9, 1954.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Jim who passed away in July 2017 at the age of 93.  Dearly loved mother of Brian (Rita) and Mark (Roberta) and grandmother of Christine, Robert, Nicole, James and Charlie.  Survived by her brother Alan and many nieces and nephews.

While raising her family Doris participated in volunteer work including Home & School, United Way (area chairman), North York General Hospital, I.O.D.E. and Meals on Wheels.  Doris was an active member of the Cricket Club for more than 30 years.  She enjoyed curling and bridge with her friends.  She was also a member of a book club that she and Jim helped found and is still meeting after 65 years.

When Jim retired they became snowbirds, wintering in Florida for more than 25 years.  Summers were spent at their cottage on Lake Muskoka, which was Doris’ favourite place in the world.  There was nothing Doris liked better than a beautiful Muskoka sunset accompanied by a good glass of chardonnay.  Doris and Jim also shared many trips abroad, travelling and cruising all over the world.  Doris will be remembered for her love of family.  She adored her five grandchildren.  She will also be remembered for her spirit and great sense of humour.

The family would like to thank all of her friends and the staff at Amica at Bayview Gardens, L.E.C. Caregiver Services and Sunnybrook Hospital Palliative Care Unit for taking good care of Doris during her last few months.  If wished, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

A family memorial service to celebrate Doris’ life will be held at a later date.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
