When my wife Judy, and I started our 20 year saga on board Veleda IV, karen was interested in my logs and featured many of them in GAM under the heading Pearls from the log of Veleda IV. GAM is still publishing logs from various sailors referred to as Pearls.
karen herself is a pearl who has contributed much to the sailing community.

We first met Karen Larson almost 50 years ago in the tiny GAM office on Front St. She was the quiet center of the sailing community. She knew everyone and everything that was going on in the sailing world and kept everyone connected through her wonderfully useful publication GAM. (We have never missed a copy). On her advice, we joined Queen City Yacht Club where, on her beloved island, we have been members ever since.
The name, Karen Larson, will always bring back many happy memories for us and, we suspect, many others.

On behalf of the team of the former Boat for Sale Magazine, I am sending our condolences to Karin's family. She was a steadfast competitor. She was smart, agile and fun to work with. And it's true. Her first circulation list was on index cards!
We will fondly remember her!

When women were not supposed to go to sea, Karin became a sailor. She was also a Naming Mother for the gig Diversité and chartered a fair course for women and girls to follow. With sadness we accept that she has begun the eternal watch. Fair winds, Karin Larson.
