Obituary of Maria Accarrino
MARIA ACCARRINO
(Neé Palumbo)
September 5, 1925 – March 1, 2018
Passed away peacefully in her 92nd year, the afternoon of Thursday, March 1, 2018. Maria was surrounding by her loved ones and died, as she wished, in the familiar surroundings of the Harold and Grace Baker Centre, her home for the last two years. Beloved wife of Matteo (predeceased), with whom she was married for over 50 years; adored mother of Josephine, much loved by son-in-law Giovanni (Marotta) and grandchildren Sebastian and Olivia. Cherished sister to Giuseppe (deceased) (Maria Ida), Lucrezia (deceased), Rosa (deceased) (Michele, deceased), and Antonia (Matteo, deceased); as well as dear aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews in Canada and in Italy. Maria & Matteo, partners in work and in life, were devoted to each other; in their retirement years, both derived much joy in being long-time volunteers at Villa Colombo. She will be remembered as a charming, resilient woman, with an old-world sense of decorum and dignity. The family would like to thank the staff, especially Director of Health and Wellness, Susan Michalchuk, at the Harold and Grace Baker Centre, whose care and devotion to Maria in her final days, will never be forgotten.
Family and friends will be received at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8th. Funeral mass will be held in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 78 Clifton Road, on Friday, March 9th at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Richmond Hill.
If desired, donations may be made to Villa Charities or to the Alzheimer’s Society. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
