I will always remember Irving as a sweet, gentle man. Irving and Marion were the first islands to walk over to say hi to us when we bought the cottage in '89 and I remember Marion telling us about using the lichen on our big rock to dye wool. I had no idea this was possible so was fascinated. To this day, I think of them when I look closely at the lichen on that rock.
Whenever I ran into Irving at the marina he would always take time to stop and chat, and he and your mom would occasionally wander over to the cottage for a nice visit. Irving was a lovely man, he will be missed.

The world has lost its last real gentleman. Self effacing and full of integrity, Irv touched the hearts of all he met, and had a profound influence for the good in the lives of countless young people.
What a wonderfully exemplary - and long - life he led. He embodied the word 'decency'.
My sincere condolences to all the family for your great loss. How he deserved his peaceful passing.
Linda Gittins, ex teacher, City of York.
