Obituary of Audrey Jean Mason

AUDREY JEAN MASON

(Nee Prettie)

On Sunday, February 25, 2018 having just turned 83, Audy, with much grace and dignity after an active and rich life full of loving family and dear friends.  Companion of Cliff Tooth.  Devoted mother (and mother-in-law) to Rob (Kerry Tooth) and Geoff (Sherry) Neish. Proud Gran to Robin and Oliver.  Audy to nieces Lauren Linton, Kelly (Jamie) Kirkland, nephews Steve and Andrew Crerar and their children.  Second Mom (and mother-in-law) to Betty Mason (Bruce Vidler), Lyn (Dan) Voght, Dave (Michelle) Mason, Jim (Tanya) Mason.  Audy to Vere’s grandchildren Stephanie, Johnathan, Tyler, Thomas, Leda, Eric, and Zack.

Predeceased by her very special parents, Robert James and Laura Mable Prettie of Thunder Bay; best friend and sister Susan Elizabeth (Bill) Crerar of Toronto and second husband of 10 years, Vere Karsdale Mason of Toronto.

Audrey grew up in Thunder Bay, boarded at Havergal College and then attended the University of Manitoba where she met her first husband and father of her two children, Bill Neish.  So proud to complete her Bachelor of Interior Design in 1959, they settled in Toronto the next year to pursue their design passions.  Audy volunteered at the AGO for many years.

A model of style, grace and calm, Audrey also had a sense of adventure and comradery as she loved to travel, socialize, read, and learn about others.  Audy’s Study Group ladies, after decades, remain one of the most tight-knit group of friends that exist and will miss her very much as will those from her latest home, Britton House.

Audrey fit in many trips before having a family but embraced her roles as: daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.  She facilitated many summers on Lambert Island, visits to Key Biscayne Florida, weekends at The Farm as well as many other trips and partnerships with her sister’s family as well as many others.

Thanks to the many fine medical professionals at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre that cared for Audrey in her last days.  We also thank the outpouring of kindness, prayers and wishes from numerous friends of many decades.

In keeping with Audy’s wishes, cremation and interment will be private.  The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) for a memorial service and reception on Wednesday, March 7th at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the “Susan E. Crerar Ovarian Cancer Early Detection Fund” at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, 700 University Ave., 10th Floor, Toronto ON M5G 1Z5.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
