Joan was Head of Sailing at GBC when I was a camper. I was a fortunate student of hers and because of her, I went on to enjoy sailing (and some racing). When I saw her name, there was no doubt that I had remembered her. There are people in one's life who you never forget. Joan was one of them for me. My memories of Aunt Joan growing up are very pleasant; she always greeted me with a smile and a hug. I will absolutely miss Joan and wish only peace to Joel, Alice and Joanna (and extended family) as life adjusts with her absence.

Dear Joel and family, Tony and I were saddened to hear of Joan's passing. My first encounter with Joan was at the CAO during an Open House and Awards Picnic. She dove right in and helped with whatever was asked of her. After a noisy night of camping amongst the snorers and the saw whet owl, Joan offered a place at the cottage to get a good nights sleep. I was touched by how kind she was. She was always very generous. I looked forward to interacting with her over the years, hearing about the grandchildren and sharing their stories. Joan will be greatly missed by all who knew her and the Open House will not be the same without her and her warm baking! Please accept our deepest condolences on your loss.
