Dear Wilma, Rob, Lori, Joanne, David and families - We have such fond memories of our mom’s cousin Jim. Growing up we would look forward to the gatherings of our families - Jim’s presence made them that much more lively (not least during his turn at the ping pong table!). We will always remember Jim’s humour, his laughter, his generosity, his warmth and genuine interest in those around him. His presence will be missed, but his memory and legacy will always remain. With love - Sandra, Erica, Derek, Shelagh and Nancy (Wilson)

I remember Jim Spence and his wonderful family when they lived in Nobel Ont. in the CIL Village. I was just a kid of 13 or 14 when I started to babysit Wilma and Jim's children in one of those old, fabulous CIL issue houses which were one of a kind darlin's with their creaky plumbing and electrical but their house had the most splendid view of Georgian Bay anyone would want. The CPR station in Nobel where I lived with my parents, Blanche and Eddie Grant, was far less accommodating and was right next door to the CIL dynamite works where Jim Spence worked. I remember Jim allowing me (he allowed me, me a mere kid) to use the "Hi-Fi" in the living room to play the Jazz records he had (Count Basie, etc.) after the children were in bed. In retrospect, he was incredibly kind and perhaps, too trusting. But that was probably a spark that engendered a life-long love of Jazz for me.
I will always think of Jim Spence and his family as being very kind and good to me. Thank you for being there.
My deep condolences to the Spence family for their loss : Lynda Grant Inkster

Dear Wilma and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He has had a struggle for a long time. A more wonderful man would be hard to find. We so enjoyed meeting you both through Hal’s struggle and since then through the close family connections with Vicki and the Spences. Our sincere condolences are sent to you and the family. We so enjoyed and remember all the stories he loved to tell..
Sincerely,
Pam and John Edgecombe

Never in my life had I met a man like Jim..so kind and generous, so full of love for his family ( no matter how distantly related!) , so genuinely interested in ALL the people he met through out his day, so full of fun and life. Those blue eyes had a twinkle that shone brightly with all his life stories he shared. He touched countless lives before mine but my encounter with Jim and Wilma touched me deeply. They included my family into their family as they had done for so many others over their lives but their kindness and generosity was not only what I needed at the time but has grown to SO much more. My promise to you is to keep as many Spences as I can find coming to our Reunions in Ste Croix.
I will always be so grateful for your love and I will miss you so much!
