Obituary of Doreen May Hain

HAIN, Doreen (nee Wills)

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Doreen on Monday, January 29, 2018 at her retirement residence in Toronto.  Beloved wife of George (predeceased).  Loving mother of Linda (Douglas) Long, Brenda Vardy and Bruce (Lesley predeceased) Hain.  Cherished grandma to Alexander (Patricia) and Elizabeth Long, Julian (Erin) and Allison (Andrew Milligan) Vardy, and Matthew Hain.  Dear great-grandma to Paulina and Alonso Long and Erik Murphy-Long and Cameron and Sadie Vardy.  Doreen grew up in Schumacher, Ontario.  In 1943, at the age of 19 she enlisted in the RCAF and was sent to Toronto to serve as a medical secretary at Christie Street Hospital.  During these 2 years she and George Hain, who was serving in the RCAF in Britain, became pen pals.  They were married in 1946. Many happy years were spent in Toronto where they were involved in various community activities.  Upon retirement they enjoyed much travel.  The family wishes to thank the caring staff at 921 Millwood Road and Northlea United Church for the support they gave over the years.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or to a charity of your choice will be appreciated.

The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5th.  A service will be held in NORTHLEA UNITED CHURCH, 125 Brentcliffe Road, on Tuesday, February 6th at 11:00 a.m.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
