Dear Valerie, Dave, Diana and Sharon,

I have fond memories of Denis, both from when he and Valerie would visit us in Rhodesia and the time we visited you all in Montreal. I will always remember him as a very gracious and witty man. My thoughts and prayers are with you today and in the days to come.

Denis Groom was a great friend and an inspiration as a boss. I worked for him when he was financial adviser to Premier Joseph Smallwood and also when he was Deputy Minister of Finance. Denis was a thoughtful and strong adviser to the Government and we were all sad to see him leave Newfoundland in the early 1970's.
He was soon invited back by the Government of Premier Frank Moores to head up Newfoundland Hydro, the Provinces electrical utility. He remained for several years before taking a job with Cunard shipping in New York. His talents were in great demand!
Denis and Val had many, many friends in Newfoundland and they loved to golf at the Bally Hally Golf Club in St. John's. The last time I saw him was in Florida when my wife Eileen and I golfed with them at the Vinoy Club in St. Petersburg. They were dear friends.
Our sympathies go out to all of his family. May he rest in peace.

We would like to send our sincere condolences to the family. We had many an enjoyable time with Denis and Val...especially great times golfing together. Denis was the true Renaissance Man, always the gentleman, always willing to help out, fun to be with at our evenings out together. We had many happy times together, and he is missed by all who knew him. We feel fortunate that we have been able to share his life, and have happy memories of those times.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the death of your father . On reading his obituary we realize what an impressive career Denis had. However we remember him as a good athlete , we enjoyed many golf and the odd tennis game with him and Val. But what stands out the most was his kindness, his fun loving spirit , he was a true gentlemen and a good friend to us.. He shall be missed .
