Margaret M.E. Lewis

Margaret passed away peacefully at Isabel and Arthur Meighen Manor in her 91st year. She was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Robert Lewis, her brothers, Ivan, William and Kenneth. Marg is survived by her sister Elizabeth Ross, brother Gordon, sisters-in-law Eila McGinley and Sibylla Lewis, many nieces and nephews, Karen (Rob), Sueann (Patrick), Mark (Brenda), Randal (Melissa), Andrea (Sean), Robert (Paula), David (Maureen), Jason McGineley (Carmen), grandnephew Sean (Carly) and grandnieces Mattie and Chloe. Margaret was born in Toronto and attended Balmy Beach Public School and Malvern Collegiate Institute and graduated in 1945. She was hired as a stenographer in May, 1946 by IBM Canada and advanced steadily, earning many promotions. Marg received a Special Contribution Award from IBM in 1970. After 37 years she retired in March, 1983 as the Director, Data Processing Marketing Administration Services. In 1968 she built a cottage in Muskoka at which she spent many happy years with family and many friends, especially after retirement. Marg did not relax long, and in May, 1983 she joined the Volunteer Association of Women's College Hospital from which she received a 25 year service award and an Honorary Life Membership in May, 2008. She was a long standing member of the Business and Professional Women's Club where she formed friendships for life. Marg joined Armour Heights Presbyterian Church in 1987 where she gained many friends and served as an elder for several years. In September, 2009, after many months of encouragement, Marg moved to Amica at Bayview seniors residence and one year later to the new residence, Amica at Bayview Gardens. In April, 2014, due to failing health, she moved to the Isabel and Arthur Meighen Manor nursing home where she passed away last week. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all of the staff at Meighen Manor for their kind and compassionate care of Marg for the past four years. Cremation has occurred privately and a reception to remember Margaret will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 2.00- 4.00 p.m. at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue), Toronto. If desired, please make donations to Meighen Manor or Armour Heights Presbyterian Church in Marg's name.
