Obituary of Nikolaus "Klaus" J. Bohr

NIKOLAUS (KLAUS) J. BOHR

Peacefully, in Toronto, surrounded by family, on Friday, October 20, 2017.  Klaus was a true citizen of the world and witness to history.  He survived the Second World War in Germany to embark on a diplomatic career that spanned three continents and brought him to his cherished new home in Canada.  He was an intellectual, and a raconteur: family, politics, history and good wine were passions that sustained him until the very end of his life.  He fervently believed in the power of international institutions as a force for good and spent much of his later years seeking justice for victims of the Holocaust by exposing those complicit who remained in power.  He is dearly missed by his wife of 61 years, Ellen, his daughters, Yvonne and Kathrin, his sons-in-law Pat and James, his grandson Danny, and family and friends around the world.  A celebration of Klaus' life will take place in Toronto on Tuesday, December 5th (please rsvp at klausbohrcelebration@gmail.com).  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Survivor Mitzvah Project (http://www.survivormitzvah.org/donate_online/) or to http://donate.niagaracollege.ca/ways-to-give/ (Nikolaus Bohr Memorial Fund): An award has been established in memory of Klaus to support a Niagara College student in the Viticulture Program.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
