Obituary of Marjorie May McAughey

MARJORIE McAUGHEY

Marjorie (Marj) passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2017, in her home, just 4 days after celebrating her 103rd birthday.  She was predeceased by her dear sister Mabel, who also passed at 103, just 14 months ago.  Marjorie will be sadly missed by her friends and her church family at Eastminister United Church.  She will especially be missed by her cousins Robert, Linda and Ruth McAughey and Robert and David Montgomery.  Marjorie was born in North Bay and moved to Toronto as a young woman to join a friend and get a job.  While working she took part-time courses both at Ryerson and U of T, and eventually became an accountant.  She worked mainly in the industrial arena and was the Comptroller for Eastern Scale.  She also worked at Hastings and for a while at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre conducting audits.  She lived with Mabel in Don Mills for over 50-years.  Her great pride and joy was her beautiful garden so lovingly manicured.  Marj and Mabel travelled extensively after retirement.  Travelling was one of the highlights of her life.  Marjorie felt blessed to be the Treasurer of her beloved church for well over 25-years.  She did this will into her 90’s.  She was also a life member of the United Church Women’s Organization.  A very special thank you to Helen Serneo and all of the lovely, kind caregivers she provided to allow Marj to stay in her home until the end.  Marj and Mabel are together once again. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17th followed by a service at 11:00 a.m.  If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Eastminister United Church, 310 Danforth Avenue Toronto, Ontario M4K 1N6, is what Marjorie wanted.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
