Obituary of Kathleen Mary Mulvihill (Nee Tapp)

KATHLEEN MARY MULVIHILL (NEE TAPP)

OCTOBER 1, 1950 – SEPTEMBER 4, 2017

Kathy was born in Ottawa, but from very early on, she seemed to know that her horizons would stretch further.  Kathy had an unyielding practicality about her … she did not need to “find herself” or “lose herself”; she needed to move forward and she always did so with style.

As a teenager, she worked at Freiman’s department store where her aesthetic and practical sensibilities began to take shape as a career.  The path forward in her life came into even sharper focus when she met Stan, her best friend, partner, husband and teddy bear.

Kathy and Stan lived for a time in Ottawa but eventually moved to Montreal and then Toronto, pursuing ever more interesting opportunities.

Kathy had a keen eye for detail and was an exceptionally quick study.  The fact that she was a hard worker magnified these qualities and made her successful and happy in her work.  Over the years, Kathy was a buyer for different companies, she travelled extensively and met many interesting friends and acquaintances.

Retirement presented more opportunities to travel, often with friends, which they enjoyed immensely.  Kathy and Stan were inseparable, and when he passed away in May of 2016 Kathy found herself profoundly lonely.  More cruel still, the fact that she was struggling with very challenging health issues herself.  Despite the best efforts of family, friends and modern medicine, Kathy succumbed to her illness.

So heartbreaking to Kathy was the fact that she would not see her two beautiful granddaughters grow up.  “The Girls” Teegan and Kady were always a source of pleasure and pride.

Kathy is survived by her son Ryan, entrusted with all matters practical, and Keeley, the most tender, loving and attentive daughter one could ever hope for.  Kathy is also survived and will be forever missed by her sisters Margret (Brian Karam) and Mary (Geoff English), nephews Anthony, Aaron, Simon and niece, Eva (Kurt Lucier).  Kathy is pre-deceased by brother Tony and sister Lisa all of Ottawa.

The family would like to thank the staff on 4 North at Bridgepoint Health Care for their exceptional and compassionate care.

The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15th.  A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, September 16th at 3:00 p.m.   Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
