Obituary of Victoria (Tory) Catherine Davison

DAVISON, Victoria (Tory) Catherine (nee Hardy)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful and much loved Tory on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.  Loving mother of Cate and Ben, beloved wife of Anders Svenningsen, loved daughter of Diane Hardy-Rose, Hans Rose and the late Brian Hardy.  Dear sister of Sam Hardy, and sister in law of Shannon.  Loving aunt to Cole, Payton and Hope.  Loved step mother of Sara and Katrine.  Loved daughter-in-law of Kitty Marie Svenningsen and Flemming Vahlgreen and brother/sister-in-laws Kristian, Anne and Pernille Svenningsen and families.  Sadly missed by Michael, Dorothy and Geoffrey Davison, Angela, Steve, Lucy and Rory McGillivary.

Tory was born in Dunedin, New Zealand on March 14, 1967.  After leaving New Zealand as a child with her parents and brother Sam, she lived in LA and Boston for 4 years before moving to Toronto where she completed high school.  Following graduation, she spent 1 year at Vassar University but completed her degree at USC.  She worked for 2 years in Toronto before moving to England where she completed two master degrees at Oxford University.  She began her professional career in investment banking, and spend 18 years with UBS and was promoted to Managing Director within UBS Markets.  In 2011, she left investment banking after successfully being part of the team that helped UBS through the great financial crisis and went into insurance which would provide her with the opportunity to utilize both her financial know-how and people skills.  Within her first 4 years at Marsh, where she started as managing Director and Chief Operating Officer for UK and Ireland in 2011, she was promoted to Chief Operating Officer for the International Division.  During her career, she won many awards and was involved both at UBS and Marsh in promoting and supporting Women in Business.

If you asked Tory what her greatest achievements were, she would always say Cate and Ben.  They were most important in her life and she worked and planned her life around them.  She found pleasure and joy in being with them and from the moment they were born, loved and nurtured them.  Summers and as many holidays as possible were spent at the house in Georgian Bay doing all the usual Canadian summer and winter activities.

Tory was the most amazing wife, mom, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and best friend.  She gave love and strength in countless ways to her family, friends and colleagues and life will never be the same without her.  Our hearts are broken, but we know her wish was for us to keep each other close, love and protect Cate and Ben and nurture each other in order to achieve her wishes.  She will be missed by all of us.

The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15th.  A funeral service will be held in ST. TIMOTHY’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 100 Old Orchard Grove, on Saturday, September 16th at 12:30 p.m.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
