I just found out from my mother this evening that John passed away. I am so saddened to hear this. I was stopped at a traffic light this morning and looked over to see a man that looked like a younger John Yates. I thought to myself, I must get in touch with John and Marion and see how they are doing and how Lorna and Jenny are and their families. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I wish I had known as I would have come today to give my condolences in person. He was a very special man to many people, myself included. Everyday after school, I would jump on the subway and go down to the PYC office to wait for my Dad to finish work. While at the office, I would start a game of elastic band wars with the junior accounting clerks and everyday our game would be interrupted by John yelling at the clerks to get back to work. After John chased me out of the office, I'd sneak back into the partners offices where I'd get my daily fix of Tic-Tac gum from the penny machine in John's office. I hope all those pennies helped him reach his early retirement goals. As a young boy and now as a grown man, John will always be mentor, friend and leader who's memories will stay with me forever. He will be missed but never forgotten. My heartfelt condolences today for the family.

Dear Marion, Jenny, Lorna and families; Sending each of you love and hope for a "peace beyond understanding". John always welcomed me and made me feel part of your family. I have so many warm, loving memories from years of experiences with John and Marion. Also so many stories of the grandchildren! John will be greatly missed. As we sit at the cottage looking at the Yate cottage and all the years we were neigbours it is so sad to know how life has changed for your family and us at the cottage.
