It was with great sadness that I learned of Boyd's sudden death on July 21st, 2017. I had the great pleasure of working with Boyd for many years at Gowlings. Boyd will be remembered fondly by us all. He was a thoughtful, generous and caring presence, a friend to all, and counsel in all manner of the word to many. His grace and patience was always present in both a demanding professional life and in his personal circumstances. He will sorely missed. My heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends. Mary M. Am honoured to be able to say that I not only worked with Boyd for 9 years at Gowlings, but was an admirer and friend of Boyd. I left Gowlings just over 4 years ago and had kept in touch with Boyd through mutual friends. I heard he had been ill, but had no idea of the seriousness of same. His death leaves a 'hole' in so many of our lives. Boyd was first and foremost a true gentleman. He was smart, modest, warm, charming, kind and always willing to assist others. I know how proud he was of his family,and particularly how he doted on his nieces when he could 'show them off' at the office. He will be greatly missed by so many of us. Of Boyd it can be truly said, 'he made a difference, he made this world a better place'. My sympathy to all . I know he will rest in peace. Patrick LeSage

Dear family of Boyd. I was shocked and dismayed to learn of Boyd's passing. I have known Boyd since his very early days as a lawyer. He was always so eager to learn more about his craft and to do his best for his clients. On personsl level, he was an incredibly sweet and thoughtful man and his smile really could light up a room. I worked with Boyd over 25 years ago but remember him well for his quick wit, friendly nature and intelligence. He was so very brilliant... Proud to have known Boyd for over 20 years - first as a fellow articling student at Smith Lyons, later as an associate and partner at Gowlings but, most importantly, as a dear friend. He was a kind and generous being, smart, funny, loyal, with valuable opinions and a deep passion for the world around him.
