Obituary of Douglas Robert Hughes

DOUGLAS ROBERT HUGHES

Age 85, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Doug was the beloved husband, for 59 years, to Beverley (nee Martin).  Loving father of Leslie (Jerry, predeceased), Kim (Ben), Robert (Erin).  Proud Grandfather (Poppa) of Kelby, Phillip, Reilly and Cameron.  Brother of Tod Hughes and Jan Hughes.  Doug was born on November 20, 1931 to Anne (Talbot) and Louis King Hughes.  He was raised in East York, attended East York Collegiate and the University of Miami.  He spent his early business career in the Heating & Air Conditioning business.  In 1972 Doug and Beverley established a manufacturing and distributing company for home medical equipment.  He retired in 2010 and enjoyed working on his wooden boats and his TR6.  He was a long-time member of the British Car Club and the Antique Classic Boat Society.  Doug loved family time at the cottage on Stoney Lake.  As per Doug’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service was held.  A celebration of his life will be held in September, details to follow.  If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Canada would be appreciated.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
