My condolences to you and your family. Losing a loved one is a sad and difficult time.
I had never met John Applegath in person although he is my first cousin. I did however meet him through my Grandmother White. I want you to know that she was very proud of him. One of the last afternoon teas I had with Granny as a child was shortly after he had graduated from university. She very proudly showed us his picture and told us he was off to law school.
(My father was Phyllis White's younger brother Earl?

A smiling face and a kind word were always there for a young lawyer starting out in the Crown's office at 18 King Street long ago. Fond, fond memories of Charlie Scullion and John and eye opening lunches for a young girl at the Silver. Rail. So many happy times. John is remembered with great affection . John was a fine and decent man and a good lawyer too,

For the first 12,years of my career I practiced mainly criminal law. I had many cases at the Finch Court against John. It was always a pleasure to deal with him. He truly was a very caring Crown and was always eminently fair.
I had not seen John for a number of years and was very saddened to read of his passing. To his family I extend my sincere condolences and trust your wonderful memories will help sustain you at this difficult time.

I have many fond memories of my grandmother, Geva Sills ( nee Hemmerick) and her friendship with Phil Applegath. As a child she would take me to Phil's house where we would peruse all her antiques and often end up bringing a treasure home which my sisters and I enjoy to this day. John and my late Father, Bill Hemmerick, ran into each other regularly and I had the opportunity to meet him on several occasions. A true gentleman and kind family man. Our deepest sympathies go out to you all,
Sincerely,
Barb Emblem

I knew my father''s fine friend my entire life. First as a family guest who would always laugh the loudest at my parent''s parties, as a boy invited to Lake Joe, then as a beneficiary of his advice as I wended through law school. Finally I remember the stalwart support he gave my father as he dealt with his own loss. Such a man.

I'm remembering those golden days of summer, on the lake, with both of you, Craig & Stew. We were young, strong and braver than we could've ever imagined. (I can still see your faces--bright, smiling, quick-to-laugh.). Your folks were the best. Always so genuinely warm and kind. And welcoming. My deepest condolences to both of you and your families on the loss of your dear Dad.
Thinking of you from 'way far-away'.

I am honored and blessed to have known John. John was my godfather, a great friend to my father and to our whole family. John was always asking about the family and remembering special events like birthdays, graduations and the like. I remember a note I received from John when I was accepted to university congratulating me on my scholarship. The note was completely unexpected as was a check that was enclosed to "keep the wolves from my door". It made an impact on me. Growing up, John took his "responsibility" as my godfather seriously, and never failed to send me a fishing knife each year for my birthday, which I of course usually lost. One made it through and I still have it in my tackle box today. I remember John when I see it, as it was of course unique and hand crafted and impossible to forget. John left a mark on those he encountered in his life and was truly a wonderful and exceptional man. Please accept condolences from the entire Scullion family and know that you are in our thoughts.
