Obituary of Frank Watson
WATSON, Lieutenant Colonel Frank
Francis John Watson was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on August 22, 1915. He was “Promoted to Glory” at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 peacefully, in his sleep, at the age of 101 and 3/4 years. He was predeceased by his parents and his three siblings, Glad, Doris and Sid, his first wife, Roberta and his second wife, Nell. He is survived by his three sons, Bob, Ken and Don, their spouses and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frank trained as a Salvation Army Officer and was commissioned from the session named “Enthusiasts.” He enjoyed a long, rewarding career serving in many capacities in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario. He retired as Department Head of the Men's Social Services of the Salvation Army for Canada and Bermuda, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Many folks have been touched by his spiritual ministry during his career and even after. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed his company, from passing on his skill of fileting fish to playing board games. He celebrated his 100th birthday with three separate parties and well wishes from his friends as well as Queen Elizabeth II, the Prime Minister of Canada and Kathleen Wynne, our Premier (who weren't able to attend).
His celebration of life will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Saturday, May 27th at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception just prior to that from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the same location and the interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
If desired, kindly make a donation to the Salvation Army Meighan Retirement Residence, who cared for him lovingly for well over ten years. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
