Obituary of Jane Isobel Staub
STAUB, Jane Isobel (nee Macklin)
June 6, 1929-April 26, 2017
Passed away peacefully at Isabel And Arthur Meighen Manor. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Jane was the daughter of the late Major Garnet E. Macklin and Norma Ferguson Macklin. Predeceased by her devoted partner Jane Atkey (2009), she is survived by her brother Peter (Margaret) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was the sister of the late Donald F. Macklin and niece of the late Major General Wilfred H.S. Macklin.
Jane spent her career working in the field of rehabilitation for disabled children and youth, initially at Bloorview MacMillan Centre where she retired as Director of Psychological Services. Upon retirement, she entered into private practice with Jane Staub & Associates where she pioneered preparing Future Care and Living Plans for lawyers and insurance companies where the plaintiffs had sustained brain injuries, spinal cord or birth injuries. Her volunteer work spanned over 40 years and included the Provincial Acquired Brain Injury Advisory Committee, the Ontario Brain Injury Association Board of Directors, co-developing the Toronto Peel Polio Support Group, co-founding the Clarendon Foundation (Cheshire Homes) and a co-founding member of the Mayor’s Task Force on the Disabled and Elderly (1972). Jane received numerous honours and recognition for her efforts.
Jane loved music, parties and travel as well as spending time with family and friends, including annual trips to Sanibel, Florida and to Muskoka with the Allenby kindergarten class, who remained life-long friends. Jane was a gracious host who welcomed everyone into her home. A very special thank you to Salome, Hannah and Pauline for your love and devotion during Jane’s lengthy Alzheimer’s journey.
