Obituary of Mary Catherine Cox

COX, Mary Catherine (née Ellis) September 23, 1917 – April 13, 2017 With sadness, we announce the death of Mary Cox in Toronto, beloved mother of Merridy Cox Bradley. Predeceased by Wallace D. (Peter) Cox, her beloved husband of 62 years. Predeceased by her brother, John R. Ellis, and sister, Doris W. Snook. Born in London, England, in the midst of WWI air raids, she came to Toronto with her parents, metallurgist O.W. Ellis and Iris Salmon Powley in 1922. She attended Havergal College and was active in the Cradleship Crêche, raising money for underprivileged children. With her husband, she organized a cross-country ski group with the Caledon Ski Club for over 40 years. Many thanks to the staff of Christie Gardens and Smart Staffing for their care. As an expression of sympathy and if desired, donations may be made to the Macaulay Child Development Centre (macaulaycentre.org) or to a charity of your choice.
