Obituary of Theresa "Oma" Cooke
Theresa “Oma” in her 90th year, died peacefully Thursday, March 23rd, 2017. Born June 27th, 1927 in Suriname. Daughter of Corine Olmtak, devoted wife to her husband Robbert Cooke (deceased 2008) and mother to Robbert Jr.(Natasha) and Steven (Tracey). Oma to Nicolas, Benjamin, Evangeline and Larissa. Beloved older sister of Arnold, Marie, Nita (deceased) and Chas. Tante Theresa to so many nephews and nieces abroad in her native Holland and Suriname.
One of the original settler’s in her Don Mills neighborhood, she counted on so many to enjoy her “soothing” life and forever live in her “home” especially her caring neighbors and friends. Whether enjoying her international home cooking, neighbors stopping to chat and a partage, her time calling to say hello overseas, playing bridge in her prime at Donalda Club or just resting in her favorite chair, she will be remembered for her strong will, “Dutch” opinions and loving heart. She will be missed by all her lifelong friends and family.
We are most thankful for those that guided her way the last years of her life especially her main caregiver “Charlita”, amongst others that she will forever be grateful for. We thank them all for the caring support and love.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10th. A funeral service will take place after the visitation in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Following the funeral service, the family will welcome friends to her home from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Her indomitable spirit is forever with us and will be represented in those moments where we need strength of character, strong will, determination and her guidance. If desired, the family requests you donate to the charity of your choice (or Canadian National Institute for the Blind) in her memory. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
