I have such wonderful memories of Bill...he will really be missed by many.
Many years ago (over 40!) I was in his Science class at the Faculty of Education, U of T. We learned a great deal about the subject and never left a class without a smile...he always had a humerous anecdote to share.
On his informative field trips, I never tired of his running joke about how to identify a Dogwood Tree.
A number of years later my brother and I attended a 3 year Environmental Specialist course he ran at U of T. It was, without any exaggeration, one of the best courses I had ever taken. Bill was truly a gifted teacher.
Thanks for everything Bill!

Dear Lois & Family
I'm so sorry we won't be able to attend the Funeral in Clinton. It has been a long and painful time for all of you and our thoughts and prayers are with you. I have wonderful and fond memories of the hours at the farm during my childhood spent with my Uncles. I was very privileged to have them in my life. I really regret not keeping in touch over the years.
Love
Gwen

Professor Andrews was one of the best teachers I ever had, if not the very best. Forty years later I still remember some of his ideas, his humour and passion for the environment.
Bill's death is a huge loss but his life was an enormous gift.

I had the great good fortune of having Bill Andrews as my Grade 13 Chemistry teacher. He was the best teacher I ever had because he made learning fun. Our 100 yard foot race is now part of Leaside High folklore. We saw Mr. Andrews a couple of years ago at our class reunion where he was a very special guest of honour. It is with a heavy heart that I write this note. He will be missed. Don Curtis

I was fortunate to teach with Bill for almost 10 years at UTS, and I would see him regularly when he worked at the Faculty of Education. In fact, later when I became the Principal of the school, I had Bill as a guest speaker at our auditorium. Bill spoke to the students about the abuses of the environment and mentioned in particular the fact that McDonald's was not recycling their paper products. Some of my students decided to protest at the local McDonald's at lunch time, and I got a call from the manager complaining about their actions. I told the manager it was time that McDonald's changed their policies. Bill just smiled when he later heard the story.
I was fortunate to persuade Bill to come back for a term to teach one class. Was that class ever lucky. The friendly persuasion and care for details that Bill brought to everything made all the difference. He was an extraordinary teacher.

I had the extreme pleasure of being in Bill's class at FEUT back in 1980-81...the Environmental Science. His expertise, sense of humour and dedication made a long lasting impact on me during my 33 year teaching career. I owe him a huge debt of gratitude and pleas accept my deepest condolences . His stories, especially related to his anti-smoking campaign were amazing to listen to and often hilarious. Rest in peace.
my deepest sympathy.....Tony Bogdan

Such a lovely, interesting man. I remember him attending playgroup classes with one of his granddaughters while I was there with my first child; I marveled at the way he appreciated her company and her insights in that patient, attentive, delighted way exclusive to grandparents. I enjoyed the engaging presentations he did for the "Cool Church" children and the thought-provoking coffeetime conversations we shared at Northlea United Church. Happy to have crossed paths.

Bill taught grade 9 science to my class in his first year teaching.
He was a remarkable teacher who inspired us to respect and continue in science. Some students joke that we got our BA or Bill Andrews Secondary School Diploma.
Bill and Lois were wonderful additions to the Northlea community.
With sincere sympathy and appreciation of a lifetime dedicated to family and science.

Heartfelt sympathy to the whole family upon your beloved Bill having to move on to greener places.
I was one of Bill's teacher education students back in 1981-'82 at FEUT after I had previously graduated from UWaterloo in Environmental Studies and Geography.
Bill was wonderful educator- always intellectual but down to earth, enthusiastic, humorous and encouraging. He had an amusing story to help clarify his point of view on every topic. And then there was his amazing boundless energy and love of all living things. Later I learned all rooted in his love of family and God.
Bill created an opportunity for me to live at an outdoor education facility of the Metro Conservation Authority while I was at U of T. This was a unique professional opportunity for a beginning teacher as I worked with students in the evenings and weekends for a very considerable amount even before my teacher accreditation. This experience was very valuable, especially work with teenagers.
All this laid a solid foundation of confidence that eventually lead to a career as a high school teacher, department head, and as a high school vice principal in the Durham District School Board.
I was very pleased to have reunited in friendship with Bill two years ago when I retired. Three decades had passed but Bill was exactly the same wonderful , multitalented guy full of energy, even though deep into his battles with medical science.
It is very hard to measure the incredible net of the successful influences Bill made in his lifetime as they are like ripples of a stone tossed into a lake , endless. I am very thankful to have known Bill and will miss him deeply.
My family will plant a tree this spring in his honour on our property. When I see the spring tulips blowing in the breeze, I will associate them with Bill's smile as he is surely somewhere in heaven telling a witty story to prove his point. All God's blessings upon Bill and his loved ones.
Most sincerely, Susan Crase
