Gary Miles epitomized the Canadian broadcaster to me. Fun. Funny. Creative. Dedicated. To his people. His stations. His industry.
We first met in the 1970s. (When neither of us were anywhere near being in our 70s.)
We served the industry as volunteers (RBC, CAB etc.) But most importantly we served our industry's value to our communities, its creativity and the whole damned country.
Gary was our leader. When it was my turn to chair the RBC board I was moved to say "Nobody can replace Gary Miles. Only succeed him." (Some famous dude said that first, but it fit.)
I look forward to honouring Gary's memory at the family event in his honour in Toronto Saturday afternoon, March 18, 2017.
