I was very saddened to hear about Rob's death. I remember meeting him as a shy teen who spoke passionately about his extensive pet collection. After following his career in the media, I was very impressed how he was not only able to make a career out of his passion for animals, but was also dedicating his life trying to preserve the ocean wildlife. He will be missed by so many. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

I had the pleasure of working with Rob from the vantage point of a public funder. His passion always came through on the screen and on the business side he was relentless in seeking the widest possible audience for the issues that were so dear to him and to the planet. My deepest condolences to Sandy, Brian and the entire family on your loss.

I am so sorry for the loss of Rob. I did not know Rob personally but like so many others I had a deep respect for him and his work. He helped the plight of sharks in such a meaningful way, spreading the word of the very cruel shark fining. The world needs more people like him and I am so sorry a man of his stature had to pass away in such a tragic accident. I have been giving to the WWF for quite a few years and will continue to do so. Wishing his loss had never happened..............

Sometimes a person, a soul, one incredible human, has done so many incredible things, in what seems like such a short period of time, that their time to transition comes when we least expect it. I suppose we all guessed the sea, his favorite home, would claim him in the end, on a major adventure to spread awareness of the beautiful and necessity of living in harmony with nature -- only we all probably guessed and still wish it would have been in 60 years from now.
The Mozart of the Sea, as I liked to tell him...Brilliant, thoughtful, determined like almost nobody else I know, caring, loving, preserving, strong, beautiful inside and out, and one of the kindest most dedicated and loyal souls that has ever graced this place.
Working tirelessly to save major species, stopping shark finning all over the world in so many capacities, riding a bicycle through France in a shark suit, breakfasts in Malibu and Santa Monica - meetings in Washington, Toronto, Galapagos - landing the New York Times for some amazing interviews and reviews - the memories flood through me yet the life and spirit of Rob stay. I could go on forever. Rob goes on for forever.
All my love is with you, Rob, the entire Stewart family, the amazing group of friends, in all forms and circles - and the entire world, as this friend, colleague, hero and man of magic has created a global ripple effect of positive awareness and real-deal-news that has gotten stronger, more loving and more powerful with every passing day...from 10 years ago to now to 10 years from now.
I feel and see Rob often, smiling, knowing he has done and is still doing so much, calling so many to action and with his passing, or changing forms, or whatever you'd like to name it, he is doing more and more all the time.
And this, this is love - and this is magic. This is dear Rob.
All my love to Brian, Sandy, Alexandra, the Stewart clan of family and friends, to Rob, to the sharks, the whales, the dolphins, the butterflies, the trees, the giant tuna - and let us all lead by example, as Rob would have it, and give everyone their say, from a 9 year-old-kid who wants to stop air pollution to those sea creatures whose words not all of us can understand.
Love forever.

I had the privilege of meeting Rob in the summer of 2015 - for 5 minutes.
And yet he copied me on his January 15 email to Premier Wynne asking to interview her. He made an enduring impression on all who met him. Rob will continue as a beacon to steer by. He was such a bright spark. He illuminated all around him. He will be missed by those lucky enough to have met him, even briefly. My condolences for your loss.
Connection: Bala and Leaside.

The oceans lost a warrior, and the planet lost a friend. Rob was instrumental in helping me lobby for the sharks of Texas. Ultimately, a bill to pass shark finning was passed in the 2015 Texas Legislature. We should all be so lucky to leave such a legacy as Rob did on this planet.
