Obituary of Douglas Francis Archer

<p><strong>DOUGLAS FRANCIS ARCHER</strong></p> <p><strong>Former Provincial Auditor of Ontario</strong></p> <p><strong>1927 – 2017</strong></p> <p> </p> <p>In loving memory of Douglas, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 with his loving family at his side.  He will be remembered by Rosemary, his wife of 64 years, as well as his six children and their spouses -- Cathy (Michael), Rosemarie (Larry), Doug (Corinne), Gail (Dave), Diane (Kevin), and David -- his 11 grandchildren, his loyal beagle companion Bailey, his dedicated care provider Renee, and the staff at Retire-At-Home.</p> <p> </p> <p>Douglas was a graduate of the University of Toronto and joined the provincial government in 1966.  He was made Director of Public Accounts in 1974, appointed Assistant Provincial Auditor in 1978 and held the office of Provincial Auditor from 1982-1991.  Active in his church, Douglas was also a supporter of animal rights, gave generously to many worthy charitable organizations, played a good game of golf, a better game of curling and a great game of bridge.</p> <p> </p> <p>To the end, Douglas maintained his strength of character, sense of humour, and a deep-rooted love for his family.  He will be missed immensely and will forever remain in our hearts.</p> <p> </p> <p>A funeral service will be held in ST. JOHN’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 794 Kingston Road, on Friday, February 17<sup>th</sup> at 9:30 a.m. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.  Flowers can be sent to HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Toronto Humane Society.  Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.</p>
