Obituary of George Moss

GEORGE W.O. MOSS, M.D., D.P.H. 1920 – 2017 Peacefully at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the age of 96. Predeceased by his beloved wife Katherine of 67 years. Loved father of Jean (Colin Kemp), David, Katherine (Michael McKeag) and Jane (Bill Ryan). Proud grandfather of Wesley (Lisa), James, Quinn (Krystin), David, Kelsi, Daniel and great-grandfather of Jaedyn and Emma. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1945; served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps during WWII and was discharged as Captain. George worked for Connaught Medical Research Laboratories where he conducted field trials for vaccines. Dr. Moss was the appointed Deputy Medical Officer of Health for Toronto and retired as Medical Officer of Health in 1981. He was a member of both Canadian and Ontario Medical Associations and was a recipient of Canada’s Centennial Medal. George enjoyed his independent life between homes in Toronto and Haliburton. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15th. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, February 16th at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
