Hi Brian
Our condolences from the Moffat family to the McGoey family.
Paul McGory was my teacher in Medical School at the U of T---and later invited me to join the General Surgical Division at the Scarborough Centenary Hospital, and I practiced there for 36 years, and loved the place. I have reams of notes on Paul McGoey, and plan some day to put pen to paper and write him up.
Janet frequently assisted Paul in the OR, and did not put up with any nonsense. They had tremendous love and respect for one another.
The last time that I saw you was when you and Psul and I ran a 10 K race at Centenary many years ago.

To the McGoey Family
We are thinking of you at this time, knowing that you were blessed to have your mother (grandmother/great-grandmother) with you for many years, but recognizing her death brings a sense of loss. May you be comforted in your memories and each other. Our perception has been that Janet McGoey was a beacon who drew the family together for many special occasions, notably Christmas, and most recently the marriage of Jenn and John.
We first met Janet, and many of you, at the cottage … I suspect there are no surprises there. At the time we observed a rather shy and reserved woman, who calmly set out three roasts to defrost for the evening meal — nothing extraordinary from your perspective, but amazing to those of us from a two-parent, two-child “nuclear” family. Most recently, we had the pleasure of chatting with her at the reception after Jenn and John’s wedding.
We did not see Janet in person very often, but shared news through Louise and Peter. Whenever we met her, Janet was interested in the conversation and offered interesting perspectives; she was gracious and kind in including us. We will remember her as a great lady.

My wife and would I like to extend Brian and the Mcgoey family our severe condolences in the passing of Janet.
Paul and Janet were wonderful friends and colleagues who we came to know well at the Centenary Hospital.
Working alongside them we know how talented and sincere they both were in their practice of orthopaedics and faith both in Scotland during the second world War, at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto and finally in Scarborough.
Paul, and Janet taught me a great deal about orthopaedics, and life in general with the dedication to both their work and their family.
They both are sorely missed.
Bernard and Diana Woolford.

Dear Christine, Brian & McGoey family, Your Mother (and Father, too) were remarkable people. I can still remember the day they and you arrived at little C. H. Berner Public School to register, having moved into the big house down the road at the top of the ravine. That was back in the mid-60's and I was flattered that your parents would entrust a large part of their family into my care to be educated.
Christine, our paths crossed once, I recall, when I was summoned for jury duty and we met briefly in the lobby in the court building.
Brian, while attending the funeral in Agincourt of the widow of a former principal of mine and mother-in law of Terry Tapscott, I passed a photo to Terry of the Gr.8 class (3 pupils, I believe) and you were one of the grads. Sorry I don't have a second copy for you.
Your Mother lived a full life and I'm sure all of you have fond memories of her. I'll pass the obituary along to my pal, Richard Wolfe, who taught at Berner after I left (he's away on vacation). When reminiscing about Berner days, the McGoey clan is always mentioned. An extraordinary family!!!
My sincerest condolences,
Gale Jagoe

Deepest condolences to the entire McGoey family. My sister, Christine McMahon, has already eloquently captured the special connection between the McGoey and Diniz families. I can only add that our parents treasured the special friendship that they had with your Mom and Dad. Growing up I appreciated your Mom always taking the time to interact with each of us and the genuine interest that she showed in our lives .
Above all else I will remember your Mom as a lady who epitomized class and grace.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Ginty. Ginty and Paul were instrumental in welcoming my family (Diniz) when they emigrated to Canada from Communist China in 1950. Their home was our home for as long as I could remember. They helped my own father get settled in his practice and the shared friendships between our families were deep. I remember the annual weekend visits to the McGoey cottage - wonderful memories filled with the peace of the Muskokas and the warmth of the McGoeys. Our ten strong family almost (but not quite) matched the eleven stronger McGoey clan. It seemed that we were matched by age too and our visits were easy pairing of those who were our own age. We tried to return the hospitality when my family hosted our winter dinner for the McGoey clan - complete with a homemade ice-rink in the back yard and lots of great food, served up by my mom, and wonderful warm memories of music served up by my father, Dr. Diniz. Ginty - yours was a life well lived and we who remain can only hope to be follow your example. May you rest in peace.
