Obituary of Thomas "Tom" Munford

THOMAS “TOM” MUNFORD

Passed away peacefully after a contented day at home, on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at age 95. Gentle and unassuming, yet witty and with the heart of a lion, Tom was deeply loved, respected in all circles and will be sadly missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Reeves), his daughters, Nancy Dane (Brien), Cynthia Shupe and grandchildren Scott (Shawna), Fraser, Lauren, Gordon (Samantha), Victoria (Matt), Stuart and Lindsay. A graduate of the 1944 UofT Engineering Class with a degree in Engineering Physics, Tom possessed a keen and analytical mind. He was a true Engineer and always had a project on the go, tackling jobs with enthusiasm and diligence. His commitment to community service saw him on numerous church committees and providing financial support for a wide range of causes. Tom was devoted to his family and could always be counted upon to give his time generously, provide sage advice or simply sit down at the games table with grandchildren. He played duplicate bridge with finesse and could be found on the tennis courts well into his 80's.

Tom confronted recent health challenges with dignity, courage and a sense of humour. With steely determination, he worked hard to live every minute to its fullest. He welcomed a move to the Dunfield Retirement Home and embraced this new phase of his life with Barbara. A celebration of Tom's life will be held in ST CLEMENT’S CHURCH, 70 St. Clements Avenue, at 11 o’clock on Monday, January 23rd. If desired, donations may be made to Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, Kids Help Phone or a charity of your choice.
