Roberta, My sincere sympathy to you and your family at this time. I was deeply saddened to hear the news of David's passing. We were colleagues at Ryerson working together in the same department for over 30 enjoyable years. I will always remember David as a person with a bright mind and sharp wit who seemed to enjoy challenges and who always gave HIS considered opinion on all important matters that arose. I will not forget him.

I was very saddened to read of Dave's death. I have not had any contact with him for more than fifty years, but as an undergraduate I often played him speed chess at Hart House back in the early sixties. In playing he was funny, alive, and a real mensch--thoughtful in every sense of the word. Even though I was nowhere near his level and almost always lost, he always treated me with respect and dignity, as if the game itself was a significant bond of humanity between players. My most sincere condolences on the passing of a person whom I remember as an exemplary human being.

My deepest condolences to you, Roberta. I met Dave at Ryerson in 1968, and since then enjoyed his friendship immensely. He was argumentative, stubborn, and always ready to fight for his principles. I always respected him for that, and will miss him greatly. Tom Kilner
