Obituary of George Oliver Rumley

RUMLEY, George ‘Oliver’ Retired employee of Southam Murray Printing and lifelong bachelor, passed peacefully in Toronto at The Wexford Residence on Monday, January 2, 2017 with family by his side. Oliver was born in North Riverside, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia on January 14, 1926. His parents were former WWI Navy Able Seaman, and later foreman of National Sea Products, Frank Rumley and his wife Bertha Olive Leet. Frank and Bertha had six children: Margaret Lessard (Walter), Marion O’Connor (James), Dorothy Guyea (Jerome), Oliver, Frank and Kenneth. Oliver was not of age to go off to WWII, however he briefly joined the factory effort, assisting in the making of rivets used to build Navy ships. Travelling through Canada and the United States, he previously worked in Salt Lake City, Utah and San Jose, California and also lived in British Columbia. Oliver joined Freemasonry at Park Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 63 G.R.C. on May 28, 1956 in Vancouver, and later in Ontario with Wexford Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 683. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Rameses Shriners and the Oakville Shrine Club. A member of the Golden Fleece Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 607 G.R.C. that amalgamated with Fairbank Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 592 G.R.C. He enjoyed playing cards being an avid cribbage player eagerly awaiting to laugh and call “Muggins”. He also very much enjoyed his time playing in his bowling league. He leaves no heirs, but will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on what would have been Oliver’s 91st Birthday, Saturday January 14th. Service and interment in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia at a later date. Charitable donations are preferred in lieu of flowers, and may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or a charity of your choice.
