Obituary of Muriel Isobel Leal
MURIEL ISOBEL LEAL (nee Clemens)
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in her 99th year. Muriel enjoyed a healthy, long, and productive life. She grew up in Hamilton and graduated from McMaster University at a time when few women were able to share that opportunity. Like most women of her generation, she was a work at home Mother. However, she always wanted to be a librarian and she took great satisfaction and pride in chairing the library committee at Christie Gardens where she lived for the past 16 years. Until recently her passion in life was bridge. She stopped playing when she could no longer play to her own high standard. Muriel valued the friendship of many through her life, especially, in her later years, her bridge partners and friends at Christie Gardens. Her family and friends remember her as a vibrant and steadfast friend and role model. Muriel’s sense of humour and keen wit were appreciated by all of her friends and the friends and families of her children who came to know her.
Predeceased by her husband, H. Allan Leal and her brother Eugene Clemens and his wife Elsie. Muriel will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her three children, Kathie Clark (Malcolm), Allan Leal (Kate), and Jamie Leal (Karen). She was very proud of her grandchildren Cameron, Branden, Hannah, Owen and Elliott. She loved her niece Caroldene Clemens and the many members of the extended Leal family.
As she requested, Muriel was cremated and will be buried beside her husband in Tweed Ontario. Donations may be made to Christie Gardens or the Canadian Cancer Society. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
