Obituary of Hella Eha Tuvikene

Hella Eha Tuvikene (née Kesker) left us on Thursday, December 22nd after a one-and-a-half year battle with a rare form of cancer. Hella passed away peacefully and quickly while in the wonderful care of staff at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga. She leaves behind her mother-in-law Salme, her son Mark, her daughter-in-law Claudia, and her dog Lucky. She has now been reunited with her mother Irene, her father Hugo, her father-in-law August, and her husband Matti (all predeceased). Hella Kesker was born in a military hospital in Hamburg, Germany in 1947 while fleeing her native Estonia. After moving to Canada, she attended the University of Toronto where she met and fell in love with her husband-to-be Matti Tuvikene. She gave birth to their only child Mark in 1979. After leaving her career as a primary school teacher, Hella worked tirelessly to raise her young family. As the years passed, her devotion became even more apparent as she gave all of her time to taking care of her ill parents and her ill husband - often at the cost of her own well-being. In later years, she welcomed her daughter-in-law Claudia to the family with open arms, treating her and taking care of her as her own daughter. Hella lived her life by always putting others before herself, even during her battle with cancer. Her thoughtfulness, generosity, and kindness towards others truly made the world a better place. She will be missed by all who knew her. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday December 29th. A service will follow in the chapel. A reception will occur at Estonian House, 958 Broadview Avenue, Toronto Ontario. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your local Humane Society (or charity of your choice) can be made in Hella’s honour if you prefer to do so.
