Audrey lived in my building at Leaside Park, and I first met her ranting(she was good at that) after she parked her car next to mine! We always chatted after that and she always had an opinion(mostly right!) At meetings across the way we would often sit next to one another and she always had something to say there...and she raised many intelligent points that I concurred with! I loved her fiery spirit like her hair, and admired her intelligence and keen wit, wicked sense of humour and positive outlook on how to be yourself and live your life! I am a bit of an eccentric myself, so when I meet another it is always a delight! I shall miss her comments on the world, and our city of Toronto; I shall miss her lovely heart and human spirit.....she will not be forgotten...
It is always hard to lose someone you look up to and someone you love; I know; my parents were both killed together at this time of year.....may you heal through your grief, and remember fondly the joy she brought to you.....With affection; Carole

When I was very young, I remember Audrey Tobias during her days in the "peace movement"…..she would swoop into our house with enormous energy, never falling to notice 7-year old me, impressing me with her vivid red (orange?) hair….she was always referred to as "Audrey Tobias", never just "Audrey"…..what a surprise and delight to see her become a national celebrity all those years later at the age of 89, charged with refusing to fill out Harper's short-form census….her activism still alive all those years later….If i recall correctly (I was 7), she worked for the Textile union…..condolences to all who knew her….a great Canadian….

Dear Family of Audrey,
I am sending my deep condolences at the passing of Audrey a very dear friend of my mothers Jean Ross Woodsworth from SCM days at UofT, their book group of over 20 years, Waupoos Cottage Coop and many other activities for peace and social justice. I continued to visit with her after my mother died in 1995. She gave me her bicycle which is at the cottage now.
I loved and respected her so much. It was so powerful when she stood up to Harper and refused to fill in the census contracted out to a US military industrial complex. I just lit a candle to remember her, by the Fraser River in Vancouver where I now live. I wonder what she would have said about the election of Trump and the Alt right in the US. I always think of her with pleasure for her incredible mind, principles and stunning hair not to mention the delicious meals she created for my visits from Vancouver enroute to the cottage at Waupoos. I wish I could join you at the memorial. Ellen
