Obituary of Virginia Stinson

STINSON, Margaret “Virginia” Virginia Stinson (nee Carroll) passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2016, in her 90th year. Mother of David Stinson (Catherine Strathy), she was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Mike, her son Greg, and her parents Leanora and Vic Carroll. “Ginny” was born and raised in Toronto and spent her formative years on Bernard Avenue in the Annex in what she always referred to as the “real” part of Toronto. She attended Branksome Hall where she made many life-long friendships that continued for decades as the “Branksome Bridge Club.” After WWII Ginny and Mike moved to Ottawa and started their family. They returned to Toronto in the early seventies and eventually retired to eastern Ontario where they enjoyed many happy years living in the “stone house” on the St. Lawrence River. Always a “joiner,” Ginny enjoyed an active social life wherever she lived and made a wide range of friends through bridge, volunteer work and service with the Anglican Church. She returned to Toronto after Mike’s death to be closer to family. Sadly, she developed dementia, but with support was able live independently until 2015. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES NEWBIGGING CHAPEL 1403 Bayview Ave on Thursday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m. followed immediately by a service at 3:00 p.m. If desired, donations to St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church or to the Ontario SPCA would be appreciated. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
