As Doug's longtime next-door neighbors, we would like to express our sincere condolences to his family on the occasion of his passing.
We feel very lucky to have known Doug, His zest for life was palpable; he was able to convey this directly with his voice, his steely blue eyes and the warm grasp of his huge hands. He was a very special person, they don't make them like that anymore. We will miss him!
so sad to have one of my heroes pass away. uncle doug was an inspiration to me & my family even though most of them never met him. i've told many grand stories about uncle doug, uncle george & my mom. simply a wonderful man. God bless.
I have fond memories of Johnny & I visiting the Pyzer cottage to see "Uncle Doug".
What I didn't know is that my dad, Jack Cooper was living at Sunnybrook the same time as Doug these last few years. Sorry I didn't know, as Jack was at LSSE, 2nd floor and I remember the pro hockey players coming in.
Your father was a gem and my parents Jack & Nan Cooper loved getting together with him.

You sure did it "my way." We had so much fun whenever we had time together. You made me your official blocker when you, Jim, Doug and I were in Vegas. I was the chauffeur as well. We had great fun at the craps tables and Jim/I had a real laugh the entire time! If we couldn't find you at the tables you were searching out great food deals. :-) We even had our fancy dinner in Caesars with the harp player for mood music!!

I am the oldest daughter of Art Hurst and Peggy Hurst. Doug and my dad were very close friends over the years. Dad was in the Air Force as was your dad. I can remember visiting the cottage and spending the time playing on the beach there with Jeannie. Dad passed away on March 24, 2011 at the age of 89 in Kitchener but we still have all of his Air Force pictures and many friends which included your Mother and Father. Your memories of your father will always remain with you.
Sorry for your loss. I will remember your grandpa every time I go to an Argo's game! Looks like a great football player and a great family man will be missed by all.
