Dear Barbara:
Please accept our deepest sympathy. We never got to know Adam well but certainly enjoyed meeting him on the few occasions when it was possible, especially on Auntie Jean;s 100th birthday. He certainly had a distinguished career as one of Canada's most important leaders in the mining and forestry businesses.
It will be difficult for you for a long time -- you will never get over your loss but you will get through it. We are sorry to be separated from you by geography and travel difficulties due to age and resources. We now spend the winter in Scott's apartment in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. I know you don't care much for the Balkans but if you are ever in the vicinity between January and May please visit. And you know where we are in BC.
May God bless and comfort you,
Roger and Nancy

Dear Barbara
What a tremendous profound loss. It was such a pleasure to see you so glowing and so happy in your life at Auntie Jean's 100th, in your life with Adam. I was so very happy for you. Roger and I talked about it on the way home from the party..
I am so happy that you had those wonderful years together. My best wishes for you going forward and my deepest condolences on this loss.
Best wishes.

I was sorry to hear about Adam's passing: he was one of the legendary figures of my Go Home Bay youth! He showed great interest, kindness and generosity to my husband Tony Reid and myself.
We were thrilled when he loaned us his BMW for honeymoon after our wedding 46 years ago! Apparently he had been instrumental in the first imports of that classy vehicle at that time.
We've seen less of each other since then, but I was always intrigued to hear about his activities........ always an energetic and impactful man.
Caring thoughts to all the family at this difficult time, from the Bob and Barbara Harris clan.

I think i was the luckiest person in the world to be able to work with Adam for almost 15 years. I spent many a vacation at the Georgian Bay with Adam and family over the years and have many wonderful memories. He was a part of the fabric of my life for almost 30 years and he will remain in my memories forever. My heart goes out to Barbara, who was his wonderful and caring partner for 11 years. I am so glad he had you by his side.
My condolences to his children, Barbara, Tom and Mary and grandchildren, Lewis, Julia, Tom and Janet.

Years ago when Adam stayed with us in our Florida home, he purchased two spotlights and installed them on the front lawn to light up our house. We call them the "Zimmerman Lights".
Adam was always fun and inspiring to be with, whether in the Board Room, at Georgian Bay, Nova Scotia or Collingwood.
We are thinking of Barbara and family at this sad time.

I have wonderful memories of the summer of '64 when I was a Mother's Helper for the Zimmerman family - at the time, I was only 15 yrs old. I distinctly remember each of you and your siblings and was saddened to read of Kate's passing. Following graduation from U of T, I visited a university friend from Bermuda and married her next-door neighbour in '74 and have lived in Bda for 42 yrs. Your parents travelled to Bda (approx.late '80's) and I was honoured to get together with them for an afternoon of reminiscing about how much I enjoyed being at Go-Home-Bay and of spending the next summer with Dr. McIntyre's family. My husband Michael and I have 3 children (33, 37 & 39) as well as 2 grandchildren for whom I took early retirement, from an admin. job at a private girls' school, to care for during the past 7 years. We have owned a second home in Wolfville, Nova Scotia for 22 years - since our 2 oldest children attended King's-Edgehill School + Acadia University. It was while on holiday here, a couple days ago, that, by chance, I happened to read your father's glowing obituary......just the way I remember Mr. Z. And my memories of Mrs. Z. are so clear too - down to my love of her infamous Coffee Pudding! With loving thoughts to each of you. Sally Ashford

An incredible loss, only to be eased with the countless memories and stories re-told in the months and years to come. Adam was such a force in the Cape family that it is hard to think of him not being a part of it anymore. Thinking of all of you during this most difficult time, much love xo Di (Cape)

I had the honour of working with and for Mr. Zimmerman when he was chairman of MacMillan Bloedel. He was most kind to me and we had an excellent association and a friendship that continued for many years thereafter via cards and updates on life in retirement. He always spoke his mind and you knew exactly what he thought about situations but he always took your opinions into consideration. I will always reflect on those years with a smile and good memories.

My deep-felt condolences to the Zimmerman Family. I was fortunate to get to know Adam at the University of Toronto, during his tenure as Chairman of the Forestry Faculty's Advisory Board ( a voluntary endeavor, which he took very seriously). His good deeds at U of T are too many to list, but I'll mention one. He, almost single-handedly, saved the building of the Earth Sciences Centre to be built. This major project, would have been scrapped in 1984, if Adam did not raise the funding shortfall for the project! He was a true gentleman, with a rock-solid integrity. Canada is a better country because of his life. Thank you Adam for all you have done. Your legacy will live on in Canada and in our hearts.
